Cocoanut Grove nightclub opens.

Operated by entertainer Mickey Alpert and others, it is named for the club in Los Angeles and located at 17 Piedmont Street. Performers include Jimmy Durante, Guy Lombardo, Sally Rand, Sophie Tucker, and Rudy Vallee. The nightclub is purchased by gangster Charles “King” Solomon in 1931, and destroyed by a fire in 1942.* An alley off Piedmont Street is renamed Cocoanut Grove Lane in 2014.
